DAVOR JAKULIN, ATech's CEOATech is a live organism which at the pace of its own growth develops all the necessary business functions. And that is where we differentiate ourselves from our key competitors. We have always consistently built and developed business functions, or have created new ones. Our company grows on sound grounds... More » DEVELOPMENTThe R&D core of ATech is divided into two teams which often work together on individual projects. Vojko, Sebastjan and Martin G. pour their expertise and resourcefulness into the products of the SmartMove line, while Martin ®., France and Elvis are responsible for the achievements in the SmartLine range. While the boys are absorbed in the creative process they often forget about everything that goes on around them, but Anita makes sure that everything runs smoothly. She takes care of the administrative and bureaucratic aspects of the business, coordinating projects and people, keeping track of the hours spent on individual projects and ordering materials, so that the boys may devote themselves entirely to their work. The ATech developers say that they would get lost in the creative chaos without her. The team consists of very different individuals. Vojko and Sebastjan come from Nova Gorica (80 km from ATech headquarters) where ATech has opened its new R&D office, Martin G. from Koper, and France from Trieste. Their careers are very different as well. Elvis joined the Company after a period of in-company placement. On the other hand, Martin ®., who has a BSc in electro-technical engineering, has begun his career path in production, as many others members of the team. The average age of the R&D team members is around 30. Why ATech?Sebastjan: Because of the creative freedom. I've started working for this company because I wish to keep on learning and developing. Vojko: Because of the constant pressure and the focus on progress and development. These conditions are the best stimulant for the brain. As are the deadlines without which nothing gets done. And last but not least, because this is a young company with high potential and a small number of employees. Martin G: Because I learn many new things every day and because ATech is a company with high potential. The distance, the snow and the deer are not why we drive here every day. France: I wanted to gain international experience. I've always liked Slovenia so the decision wasn't very hard. Besides, I've made a decision not to work for large companies anymore, because they are like elephants - it is very hard for them to move. But ATech is much more agile, more flexible. And the same goes for the team. Elvis: In ATech you can never get bored. There's always something going on, lots of action all the time. Martin ®: What is important to me is that developers have a say in the decisions concerning a product, though not just a particular product, but strategic, long term decisions about the company's activities. How is ATech different?Martin ®: It is desirable, if the project deadlines allow it, to devote some of the time we spend at the company to the research and development of our own ideas. France: It's somewhat similar to Google labs. Martin ®: This approach has already borne fruit: we succeeded in designing a product which is now being successfully marketed. Vojko: ATech is a small company and it isn't caught up in any particular industry branch. Everything revolves around personal development and you never know what tomorrow will bring. This is what drives and motivates us. How do your two teams operate?Vojko: We work as a team. We divide the work, but also share it. And even though each team has its own responsibilities we cooperate. We discuss all the issues - we can always reach an agreement. There is no hierarchy; we have a process-oriented approach. The company has a flat organisational structure. Sebastjan and Martin G: Vojko is our mentor. Vojko: We work as a team. There is a strong stress on intergenerational learning. I learn a lot from my colleagues. And we share all the results as a team. Martin ®: We always divide the work in view of the type of the project, the workload; we discuss it with the marketing team and the others. France: We are prepared to do all it takes to get accepted by the market. Working overtime is not a problem. My wife is not too thrilled about that, but it can't be helped. We have to find different ways to make it up to our families. When you talk to them, you immediately notice how mature they are; not only in the field of electronics development, but also in their personal relations. Praise from colleagues is not rare and always comes from the heart. For example, they say about Vojko that he is a living encyclopaedia which is being written every day. There is no competition between them, only trust and cooperation. However, another kind of burning can often be seen at ATech: the burning of fire at barbecues which the ATech team organises on different occasions. France, Martin ®. and Elvis add that they do not get along only as colleagues, but also as individuals.
